“TEXTING”, The Downfall of The English Language
We have been tracking how people “text” and write in different posts and comments on internet blog sites. It is astounding how expressions and points of view are composed without any regard to proper and correct basic elementary school grammatical principles.
How can one place his/her signature, name, and electronic address to a written composition that needs an astrologer to decipher and make sense of what it is trying to express?
- Is it that our basic schooling is falling short in grammar?
- Is it that proper composition rules are not being adequately taught in our schools?
- Is it that our citizens are no longer interested in reading well written books? Reading makes proper composition a second nature to the reader!
We can understand that abbreviations such as “ty” for thank you, etc., are a time saving alternative while “texting”, but not making sense in our written expression is unforgivable.
